Austin Futsal is pleased to announce tremendous upgrades in its playing facilities for the Summer 2005 season. In addition to returning to the full sized court at South Austin Recreation Center, Austin Futsal has secured a full sized court at Northwest Recreation Center at 2222 and Mopac for its Central Location. NW Rec replaces the half court facility at the Dell JCC. In addition, we will be using the Clay Madsen Recreation Center in Round Rock for our North location. Clay Madsen has two full size courts and seating. Clay Madsen replaces the Rock Gym as our North location.

Austin Futsal will host summer leagues for youth and adults in the Capitol Area. Adult league play will begin in mid-May, while youth league play will start the first weekend of June. No games will be scheduled over Memorial Day or July 4th weekends. In addition, youth teams will be guaranteed one blackout weekend for outdoor tournaments. Both seasons will conclude by the end of July.

Online registration will soon be available. Teams wishing to be notified when online registration starts should pre-register at this site. Summer league play includes special provisions to assist with vacations and other obligations. In addition to the blackout weekend, teams may use up to two guest players per match. Guest players must be registered with Austin Futsal, but may guest play for any team in their age group, or in the age group immediately above the age group of the player. In addition, team roster sizes are expanded from 12 to 18 for the summer. No more than 12 players may be used in any game, but teams may register up to 18 players during the season.

The early registration deadline for both leagues is May 1, 2005. Early team registration fees are $375 for U10 and younger, $420 for U11-U19, and $450 for adults. Late registrations will be accepted subject to an additional late fee. Winter futsal players do not pay any additional player fees.

AC Sparta Clinches Inaugural Men's Championship

Drama reigned at South Austin Rec Center Saturday as AC Sparta, 5-0-0 entering the evening, met Bees (4-1-0) in a rematch of the opening weekend. After falling 11-5 to Sparta in the opener, Bees reeled off four consecutive wins as they grew more comfortable with the game of futsal. Entering the game, Bees knew they needed a seven goal win to take the aggregate series and advance to the US Futsal national championships.

Bees opened the scoring with a Josh Will goal, marking only the second time all season Sparta had trailed in a match. The deficit remained for mere seconds as Sparta forward Shamus Jaeger scored directly from the kick off to level the match at 1-1. Sparta took a 3-1 lead, but Bees closed the gap to 3-2 with a goal shortly before half.

Entering the second half, Bees knew they had to challenge for every ball. Aggressive defending kept the game tight initially, but led to gaps in the defense as Sparta slowly opened a lead. Bees saw the opportunity to win the aggregate series slip away, but continued to challenge hard in an effort to claim the victory on the evening. However, the aggresive efforts to get the result put Sparta in the double penalty and led to an eventual 8-4 victory for Sparta. Asmir Mujakovic led Sparta with three goals. Josh Will paced Bees with two tallies.

Summer 2005 Registration Opens

Registration for the Summer 2005 season of Austin Futsal is now underway. Online Registration is now available on the Austin Futsal website. Games will be played at various gymnasiums around Austin. The South Austin Recreation Center is confirmed for Adult and youth play. Additional locations in Central and North Austin will be posted to the Austin Futsal site as they are confirmed. Registration by mail is also available. The registration form, as well as additional information on Futsal can be obtained from our website.

The adult season will start on May 13. Youth league play begins June 4. Both leagues will conclude by July 31, 2005. All teams should register based on their age group from the prior year. A special league for new U11 teams will be formed. Those teams should register as U10 Select level teams.

Austin Futsal also has incorporated several rule changes for teams to accommodate the summer season. First, teams will be allowed to register up to 18 players. Second, teams will be permitted to use up to two guest players per game. The guest players must be US Futsal registered. Finally, each youth team will be permitted to completely block one weekend of play for qualifying tournaments or other conflicts. No games will be played over July 4 or Memorial Day weekend.

Austin Futsal Association - "Bringing the World's Indoor Game to this Part of the World"

Lonestar S.C. affiliated teams swept the championships for the Austin Futsal youth leagues and earned advancement to the US Futsal national championship tournament. With champions determined through a double round robin season, the teams played ten games as they learned the sport of futsal. Due to the "not in good standing" status of the El Paso league, the Austin Futsal champions have been declared state champions as well. Runner-up teams also were recognized, coming from a variety of clubs and associations.
